The Course
This course is over three lectures and includes animations and illustrations to help you visualise the digestive process.
Anatomy and physiology – explaining anatomy and physiology to patients is important in helping them understand their anatomical structure.
Bowel conditions are explored including neurological, functional and Low Anterior Resection Syndrome (LARS) - and we go on to explain the types of symptoms that are experienced with them.
There is no one-size fits all when it comes to treatment. Learn about treatment pathways and how they have developed. As well as the different ways to use a treatment pathway.
What you will learn
The digestive system is complex, we will follow it’s working from the mouth to the anus. It’s part mechanical and part chemical- with each stage and organ playing an important role. The central nervous system also plays a critical role in normal bowel function, we have included SCI, MS, strokes as well as other conditions. We outline functional bowel disorders that affect the gastrointestinal tract, without structural abnormalities or damage. Low Anterior Resection Syndrome (LARS) is common after bowel surgery complications.
“I can delve into my experiences in clinical practice to give you a good understanding of conditions and symptoms and detail the treatment pathways available with recent models” - Brigitte Collins
